Trust and Obey
This week, I had the opportunity to lead worship at Calvary Derby Hill, one of our sister churches, and the sermon was on Amos 7.
Now, it’s been a while since I have thought of Amos, but verses 14-15 comforted me:
14 Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, 'I was no prophet, nor a prophet's son, but I was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs. 15 But the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
Amos was an ordinary man who listened to the call of the Lord and obeyed. I pray that that is my heart and yours.
As we are settling into Eaton there has been an overwhelming amount of emotions to process through, and amidst all the change we can hold on to the consistency of our Lord Jesus Christ, we trust in the call he has placed on our lives and we listen and walk in obedience.
Church planting was never a thought in my head growing up, but as a member of Calvary Severance over the last 6+ years, I have had a front row seat to the impact the local church has on its community, when the church acts in obedience to the call. So what are we called to do? Make Jesus non-ignorable in our homes, in our workplaces, in our day to day lives.
When you trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior, you can’t help but tell everyone about it. My prayer is that the excitement that we had when we first surrendered to the Lord is the same excitement we have to go and share how this has impacted our lives. We are called to listen to the Lord, follow him with all that we are, and tell others how to do that as well. We are called to listen and obey.
Here’s the thing to remember, there is nothing that we do to make us especially equipped to follow Jesus, but God himself has transformed us to be uniquely qualified to follow him with all that we are. Whether you are a teacher, a farmer, or an engineer we are all called to listen and obey.
