Heart Knowledge Over Head Knowledge
"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:36
When you look at others what do you see? When you see a pride parade what most immediately wells up in your heart? When you see a homeless person what do you consider about their background? When you read an Instagram post from a feminist what's your knee jerk reaction? Is it compassion for the "crowd"? I know it often isn't for me. I'm quick to judge, slow to listen and quick to become angry. Yet God's Word says in James 1:19, "Everyone of you should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." So my first observation with that verse is that Jesus had compassion on those who didn't know and love Him so we should do the same. My second observation is that they were like sheep without a shepherd. Not students without a teacher. Here's my point, we can know a whole lot about following Jesus but if we're nothing like him then our lives have no worth. 1 Corinthians 13:2 says, "And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing." So friends, let us prioritize heart knowledge over head knowledge and joyfully join Christ in His mission to show compassion on those who need it the most.
