Better Together
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their work. - Ecclesiastes 4:9
Some things are just better together.
Peanut butter and jelly. Popcorn and a movie. Trampoline and a sprinkler. Calvin and Hobbes. Coffee and more coffee. Campfires and marshmallows. A kite and a windy day.
Better together is a fantastic slogan. It simply means “greater than itself.”
Grilled cheese. Good. Dunked in tomato soup. Better.
Relationally, better together means two are better than one. God created us for and called us into relationships. He has called us into a personal relationship with him, and He invites us into authentic relationships with others.
In fact, God existed in relationship with Himself from the beginning. For all eternity, God has existed in relationship — as Father, Son, and Spirit. This means our God has been relational forever. It means He created us out of relationship for relationship. Better together.
This is what makes Christianity unique — the God we worship wants a personal relationship with us! Then, he wants us to take that relationship and use it to build relationships with other people.
I pray that we don’t miss opportunities, as a body of believers, to love one another, build one another up, pray for one another, encourage one another, greet one another, and serve one another in the name of the Lord. It’s a joy to be united together in the family of God. Simply put, we are better together.
