New Year, Same Jesus
And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new."
Revelation 21:5
It is New Year’s Eve. This is when many make resolutions and commitments to change for the good. We commit to new gym memberships, eating healthy, more sleep, and Bible reading plans. All of these are good commitments to make. The gyms love the revenue, and when people follow through, they do get in better shape. Yearly Bible reading plans are also great; there are many to choose from and apps that make it super simple. However, just like many of our resolutions and commitments they often fade.
We are prone to falter on our commitments and our promises are empty. I don’t know about you but when I fail I feel so defeated and I tend to say well maybe next year. And the story repeats itself.
This is evidence of our fallen nature. We are broken, and all the effort we can muster to improve ourselves on our own, in the end, will not prosper and last. We can be in the best shape, eat healthy, and improve our habits, which are good, but they will not make us completely whole.
But there is good news! There is hope! Jesus is the one who can fulfill the promise of hope and joy. In the last book of the Bible, we read that Jesus is making all things new! Brokenness is being restored. Hope is assured through the King seated on the throne. He makes all things new through His death, burial, resurrection, and His Kingship.
As we approach the new year, make commitments to exercise more, eat better, read your Bible more, and so on. But don’t put all of your hope into your efforts. Instead, let the promise of Jesus making all things new be your hope for a true future.
Happy New Year!
