I Have What I Need
I've recently been meditating on Psalm 23:1. I like how the CSB puts it, "The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need." I just love the reminder that because He is our shepherd, we will always have what we need. We don't need anything else! This makes me immediately think of eternity, because I mean realistically we need food and water and sleep and whatnot. So it seems as if King David is thinking of eternity as he's writing this because it's Christ that leads us to eternity. And eternity with Jesus is all we really need. A relationship with our shepherd is all that really matters. It's this frame of thinking which allows us to have joy especially when discontentment comes knocking at our door. It just makes me so happy to know that this life isn't all there is BUT that I have the ability to enjoy this life because He is my shepherd and He will be forever. That's all I need, and that's all you need. So let him shepherd you this week, think about eternity with Him, and let that kill all the discontentment in your anxious heart. "You have made us for you O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you." -Augustine
